PARENTHESIS comes to Melbourne for 3 shows only on July 31 and August 1 & 2 at Gasworks Theatre in Albert Park after playing Launceston & Hobart.
Kate Denborough is recognised as one of Australia's foremost directors of physical theatre, most recently having directed Frank Woodley's new solo show "Possessed" for the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Kate’s piece, "Pink Lines", explores the intangibles of attraction and the primal urge to mate and is rich, raw and explosive in its physicality. The title references the second pink line of a pregnancy test which changes one’ s future forever.
Natalie Weir contributes a depth of choreographic experience, having created more than 100 works in over 20 years for most major dance companies in Australia including the Australian Ballet where she was appointed as resident choreographer. She has worked extensively with companies outside Australia, including American Ballet Theatre, The Houston Ballet and Hong Kong Ballet. Natalie's poetic piece "In Her Footsteps" explores more intimately the experience of parenting. She presents a parent's view of the passage of time through the growth of a child, her work speaking profoundly about the larger issues of nurturing.
Graeme Murphy is Tasdance's patron. He says about PARENTHESIS: "Like parenthood itself Parenthesis is in no way predictable, but with Tasdance the pedigree is assured. This newest offspring promises an exploration of dance in all its fascinating diversity – all we, the audience, have to do is find a seat and wonder at the power of Tasdance.” Graeme Murphy (Patron)
