The boy who wrote music before he wrote words
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a child prodigy who wrote more than 600
musical pieces in his short lifetime. The son of a respected composer
and music teacher, Mozart showed early promise when barely out of
nappies.
At four he was playing the violin and by five he had mastered several
piano compositions. By the age of six Mozart had composed his first
concerto and by nine his first symphony.
As a young boy Mozart travelled with his father throughout Europe and
performed for royalty, lords, ladies and courtiers. With incredible
natural music talent, Mozart’s genius was his ability to translate his
emotions into chamber, orchestral and operatic music – and to make it
moving, exciting and fun.
Set in a relaxed, informal and interactive environment Babies Proms
introduces kids to the joys of live music and story telling. With the
help of the Babies Proms Orchestra, children will be charmed to hear
Little Boy Amadeus tell his own story of a unique musical childhood.
The chamber orchestra will be led by special guest conductor
Sarah-Grace Williams who is fast gaining a reputation as one of
Australia’s leading conductors of her generation.
An accomplished clarinettist and pianist, she studied with Maestro
Alexander Polishchuk at St Petersburg Conservatoire, Russia and with
Maestro Jorma Panul in Holland.
A lecturer at the Australian Institute of Music, Sarah-Grace has
composed, arranged and recorded music for films, theatre, symphonic
ensembles and chamber groups. She also remains a highly sought after
vocal coach and performer/teacher of the clarinet and keyboard.
Last seen at Sydney Opera House in Babies Proms ABC 123, Christopher
Rickerby will play the title role of the famous Austrian composer. A
NIDA graduate, he has been performing professionally since the age of
11 as both a singer and actor.
Chris has worked with luminaries such as Baz Luhrmann and The Bell
Shakespeare Company as well as guest roles in television series
Neighbours, Blue Heelers and All Saints.
