Tujiko Noriko Print
“Building dense song worlds out of layer after layer of treated keyboards, Tujiko's voice flutters through her songs with little-girl wonder.” The Age

Tujiko Noriko is the undisputed queen of Japanese avant-pop experimental music. A prolific artist who has recorded 13 albums in just eight years, she has carved away a uniquely spliced vision of divergent pop.

Having never played an instrument until she randomly picked up her boyfriend’s synthesiser, this electronic songstress has cemented her position as the Bjork for the digital underground.

Much of her music consists of repetitive layers of samples, electronic beats and melodies gradually added on top of each other, with her lyrics sung in Japanese and English.

Tujiko’s songs cut a fine path through delicate melodies and devolving rhythms. At times she is consumed by washes of digital electronics, only to emerge again in the most elegant and sonically intriguing ways.

“Using fairly simple tools and a simplified approach, Tujiko still managed to make music that sounds utterly symphonic in its scope.” The Age

This will be Tujiko's first visit to Australia in four years, after releasing a swag of astounding new records that positioned her at the top of contemporary avant-electropop. She will also perform at The Judith Wright Centre, Queensland on August 20.

Presented with the Uber Lingua crew and supported by FBi 94.5’s Stuart Buchanan from Fat Planet on decks, this will be the perfect introduction for new fans and a welcome return for the already converted.

Uber Lingua is a growing movement of DJs, video artists and musicians who celebrate and promote the contemporary end of multi-lingual music and culture.

Going beyond what is referred to as 'world music’, modern forms in diverse languages such as hip hop, electronic and dub plus a zillion sub-genres and remixed sonic traditions are explored, alongside connected social and cultural movements.

“Her songs seem tender and sinister, like ghostly lullabies for the laptop generation.” The Age
