No Success Like Failure is part talent quest, part educational forum and part cabaret. A hilarious ‘how-to’ show that leaves you misguided, misdirected and on a crystal clear path to nowhere.
Focussing on the aftermath of failure, The Fondue Set maintains their signature theatricality and concern with engaging the audience, choreographic structures, interesting content and mighty ways of developing dance into new and unknown places.
Since coming together in 2000, The Fondue Set, comprising Elizabeth Ryan, Jane McKernan and Emma Saunders, has earned a reputation for producing imaginative, comical choreography that leads contemporary dance into uncharted territory. For the first time, The Fondue Set has collaborated with award-winning director Wendy Houstoun to tackle notions of loss, emptiness, and letting go.
No Success Like Failure takes its inspiration from the trio’s 2005 piece The Set (Up), which premiered to sell-out audiences at the Performance Space in Sydney. In 2006 The Fondue Set participated in the Australia Japan Dance Exchange, performing in Osaka and Matsuyama in Japan and at the Sydney Opera House Studio. Their 2007 video work The Lorrae Desmond Show and regular appearances on ABC TV’s The Sideshow have helped bring The Fondue Set’s unique brand of contemporary dance into the pop culture spotlight.
No Success Like Failure premiered in June 2008 at the Sydney Opera House followed by a season at Campbelltown Arts Centre before making its way to Melbourne’s Arts House.
