Following on from the cult cabaret-hit and Green Room award-winner, Vaudeville X, a cultural autopsy of the middle-classes, and Dalley’s solo musical satire Death in White Linen, High Performance Company brings back the nail-file-sharp comedic cabaret Intimate Apparel.
Michael Dalley and Paul McCarthy have declared a “Sorry Day” for the Arts.
In Intimate Apparel, they pose the burning question: “Will you love me despite my lack of spatial awareness?” With verve and vitriol, they take to task those desperate and deluded individuals who bare their souls on stage at the expense of the paying public.
The middle-class girl from Kew whose ‘erotic cabaret’ makes a Gorillagram look sexy; the depressed housewife who does clowning as therapy; the illiterate footballer turned motivational speaker; postmodern pornographers and queer performance artists…are all grist for the mill of no mercy.
Nominated for a Green Room Award for ‘Best Original Songs in Cabaret’, Intimate Apparel brings together award-winning singer/songwriter Michael Dalley and Comedy Inc star and AFI Award nominee Paul McCarthy (AKA Mel Toupe, Noeline Dragge, Cliff Hanger and Kochie).
“Dalley is not so much a social observer as a human vivisector.” The Saturday Age, 2007
“A little gem with clever songs, slick performances and incisive observations.” Herald Sun, 2007
