Zeitgeist | Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre Print

Zen Zen Zo presents a collection of raw and provocative pieces that reflect 'the spirit of our times' – ZEITGEIST

25 June – 12 July 2008

Tues - Sat (7.30pm)

Extra show Sat 5th & 12th July (9.30pm)

Old Museum Building, Bowen Hills

Drawing from critically acclaimed past productions Unleashed, Those with Lucifer and international collaborations with American Band The Dresden Dolls, Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre will present a ground-breaking exploration of the question: how do we as human beings meet ourselves, each other, and the earth at the turn of the new millennium?

Director Lynne Bradley (Sub-Con Warrior 1, Wicked Bodies, Unleashed) promises a show that is both a celebration of Zen Zen Zo's past Butoh works, and a debut for exciting new choreography in a performance that explores 'the spirit of our times'

Zeitgeist weaves together the big issues of our age – global warming, terrorism, spiritual apathy – with universal themes, myth and archetype. It is a kind of apocalyptic vision of our future, realised through the maelstrom of 21 Butoh bodies on stage. “

Featuring twenty-one of Australia's finest physical theatre performers, this Butoh-inspired performance will excite and challenge the audience in Zen Zen Zo's trademark physical and visceral style.

Zeitgeist will be presented as part of Zen Zen Zo's annual 'IN THE RAW Studio Season', a yearly event where the company can return to its experimental roots, creating exciting new work in non-traditional theatre spaces.

Notorious for their innovative, shocking and visually striking performance style, Zen Zen Zo has captivated audiences for the past 16 years in countless sell-out seasons in Brisbane, Japan, Singapore and Hong-Kong. Zeitgeist looks to be no exception with tickets already in high demand.
