At the Centre of Light Print
This unique production, fusing movement, text, music and the odd puppet, takes the audience on a journey through Mary’s life – the moments that have led her to now be hailed as the Australian people’s Saint. A play about faith and the grace and dedication of one woman’s belief in creating a better world. Her original and authentic voice challenges society and asks what is this land to which we all belong.

Writer: R. Johns: La Mama has long supported Rosemary’s journey as writer with plays Carrying Shoes Into The Unknown (Currency Press / VCE Syllabus 2006), The Girl Who Wanted To Be God (co-writer; P.W.A. Athens, La Mama, Theatre In The Raw, Theatreworks), Th e Opp Shop. Other plays include Blackbox 149 (theatre@risk festival of writing, 2007) and Luck of the Draw (Currency Press).

Carolyn Bock’s La Mama association began as an actor in Web (1994), followed by Thy Kingdom Come, Banshee and Are You Evil Tonight? (Green Room Award nomination). Carolyn’s performance career has been associated with movement, dance and drama. Working frequently on television in City Homicide, Neighbours and Blue Heelers and numerous films, including cult classic Zone 39 and SNAK, she makes her directorial debut after the successful Explorations Season of At The Centre Of Light (La Mama, 2007).

“Those who saw the play felt it touched into the mind and heart of the woman now officially called Saint for Australia. We recommend the play” – Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre.
