Since
hanging up his hat as one half of the much loved duo, Lano and Woodley,
Frank Woodley has been concocting his biggest show yet.
Inspired by Frank’s silent movie heroes (think Buster Keaton, Charlie
Chaplin, Jacques Tati), Possessed is a wildly physical feast of comic
imagination, a love story set in a basement featuring original music by
multi ARIA Award winner Paul Mac, in a world created by designer
Christina Smith under the direction of Kate Denborough from KAGE
Physical Theatre.
In Possessed, Frank plays Louie, a lonely, timid man who’s too afraid
to venture out of the house. He obsessively builds little wooden
sailing ships, and dreams of exciting ordeals on the high seas, but
adventure in his own life is limited to disposing of troublesome
tea-bags, and having humiliating tussles with modelling glue. That is,
until Phoebe comes to visit.
Phoebe is a feisty and mischievous young Irish woman, who also happens
to have died in the 19th century and has possessed Louie to find her
way out of Limbo.
Frank brings his exuberant, mischievous style to this hilarious and
bittersweet love story. Exploiting the rich vein of comic possibilities
that are on offer, Frank fills the stage with physical and visual
invention. Possessed is one marvelous and hilarious routine after
another.
His debut solo show, The Happy Dickwit, was described as “a triumph” by
The Age. He also appears regularly on ABC TV’s music quiz show Spicks
& Specks and Network Ten’s hit Thank God You’re Here.
“Possessed proves without doubt that Woodley is one of Australia’s very best performers” Adelaide Independent Weekly
“Watching Woodley slip down staircases, collide with furniture,
tumble from ladders and fall flat on his face is like a Buster Keaton
movie brought to life * * * *” Adelaide Advertiser
“Woodley is one of our most naturally gifted comedians * * * *“ The Age, Melbourne
"...you must leap out of your chair and sacrifice life and limb to buy a ticket to this * * * *" Sunday Herald Sun, Melbourne
