In maritime legend, The Flying Dutchman was a spectre ship doomed to sail the seas forever unless the condemned captain should find a woman who would love him faithfully unto death. In Wagner’s haunting operatic version of the tale – the Dutchman is only able to return to land every seven years in his hopeless search for a woman who will redeem him through her faithful love. In a Danish sailing village Senta, transfixed by a portrait resembling the Dutchman hanging on the wall of her house, believes herself to be that woman.
Under Oleg Caetani, the cast for these exceptional concerts include some of the greatest Australian singers of our time – Lisa Gasteen, Stuart Skelton and John Wegner.
Please note earlier concert starting time of 7.30pm.
