Toward the Light | MSO Print
The exploits of the 14th century German folk hero Till Eulenspeigel were the basis for one of the most vivid, engaging and compact of Richard Strauss’ symphonic poems – a vivid piece of musical story-telling.

Saint-Saëns’ second Piano Concerto moves through moods of high drama and melodious charm, all the while providing dazzling pianistic fireworks. The soloist in this performance, Simon Trpčeski, is a born performer with astonishing technical command and a magnetic personality.

A deeply humanitarian composer, Nielsen was appalled at the waste and carnage of the 1914-18 war, yet was able to write out his hope for the future in his remarkable Fifth Symphony. Its two massive movements chart an emergence from battle and destruction to triumphant regeneration.
