The star-studded line-up at QPAC’s Out of the Box Festival for 3 to 8 Year Olds at the Cultural Centre continues with much loved Australian actress Sigrid Thornton lending her voice to the festival.
The popular star of the stage and screen has narrated the festival’s epic puppet theatre performance of Gondwana, which gives an insight into the prehistoric creatures which roamed our continent.
Accustomed to working with some of the biggest stars in the industry, Sigrid will tell the tale of the great southern land of Gondwana as they meet 13 species of dinosaurs on stage.
Scripted especially for Out of the Box by writer Verity Laughton and associate director/ script adviser, Wesley Enoch, Gondwana’s other stars include the Leptictidium, bearing a resemblance to modern day wallabies, Steropodon, believed to be a direct ancestor of the Platypus and the Mamenchisaurus, a giant plant-eating dinosaur 22 metres in length.
Created by internationally renowned, ERTH Visual and Physical Inc, instead of mysterious animatronics the lifelike dinosaurs have human beings either inside, above or behind each creature, animating each one with its own distinct personality and often with an appealing sense of humour. Some interact with the audience, and for a few lucky children there’s an opportunity to be invited on to the stage at the end to meet and tend the needs of one of the show’s stars – a very beautiful Dryosaur.
Sigrid can be heard at the Out of the Box festival every day from 10-15 June.
Gondwana is one of 9 performances, 8 workshops and 15 free events that comprise this year’s Out of the Box Festival which runs from 10 to 15 June.
