Pool (No Water) | Red Stitch Print
"Whenever a friend succeeds, a little something in me dies". - Gore Vidal

A famous artist invites her old friends to her luxurious new home. For one night only, the group is back together. But celebrations come to an abrupt end when the host suffers a horrific accident.

As the victim lies in a coma, an almost unthinkable plan starts to take shape: could her suffering be their next work of art?

The group is ecstatic in its new found project until things slip out of their control. To the surprise of all, the patient awakes...

If you'd been in that hospital with us then maybe, maybe you'd have felt the same.

Acclaimed writer Mark Ravenhill (The Cut, Shopping and Fucking) creates a visceral and shocking exploration of the fragility of friendship and the jealousy and resentment inspired by the success of others.  A brutally pertinent exploration of the 'tall poppy syndrome' so embedded in our own culture.

"a provocative, discomfiting and stylised examination of some of our baser human instincts" - The Times

"Crackling, acrid wit… a bold examination of (mis)behavior in the name of art; the divisiveness of fame and the perils of pools". – Stage Online

Red Stitch is delighted to welcome director Simon Stone (Platonov, Spring Awakening) for the first time.  Pool (No Water) features ensemble members David Whiteley and Dion Mills alongside special guest actors Melissa Chambers and Jessamy Dyer.

Please note:  As announced in April, Pool (No Water) has been programmed in place of Michael Gurr's play Intelligence.  Intelligence was written specifically with the Red Stitch ensemble in mind and, due to professional commitments, a number of ensemble members became unavailable or had their availability severely restricted for the workshop and rehearsal period.  The company plans to reschedule the production at a time when it may be cast from the actors for whom it was originally intended.
