Melbourne’s newest independent theatre company, CRACKED ACTORS, take to the stage with the contemporary 20th century classic Waiting for Godot. This unrivalled masterpiece written by Samuel Beckett is being performed in Melbourne for the first time in years and is not to be missed.
This production provides a rare opportunity to see "a dramatic masterpiece..." that has been the subject of much study and attention since its first performance in 1956 and is still featured on both the VCE Drama and Literature curriculum. The play, infamously derided as one in which “nothing happens…. twice,” has obvious relevance in a modern day world in which nobody seems to wait......... for anything.
Samuel Beckett's beautifully written play, which the New York Times described in 2006 as his 'first and funniest dramatic masterpiece', is the story of two tramps of indeterminable age who spend a day and then another awaiting the arrival of the mysterious Godot. Vladimer and Estrogen are 'determined to keep their appointment' with the elusive fellow and seem willing to go to extraordinary lengths to ensure that it comes to pass. They are bored they are happy they are sad and their daily lamentations form a hilarious exchange as the pair debate various pros and cons of their dilemma. They are interrupted by the arrival of the indomitable Pozzo and his carrier Lucky who bring with them a thousand more unanswerable questions.
