Love Monkey | The Amazing Business Print
“Those who travel by the moon will encounter monsters”

Love Monkey is the final in the critically acclaimed ‘Monkey Trilogy’ of one-man shows by John-Paul Hussey. Set in the night of the day in 2005 when the Tsunami broke, a porter in an old Irish hotel vacuums thousands of square feet of carpet. His only companions are an obese bell captain, a style-conscious Indian hospitality student and his own morbid imagination.

In the late nineties John-Paul Hussey decided to create a series of one-man shows based on the four elements. All of the shows, Chocolate Monkey, Spacemunki & Love Monkey are funny, fast paced, highly physical and visually stunning, combining original video projections, hypnotic music scores and highly inventive lighting designs with character-based storytelling. Chocolate Monkey was nominated for two Green Room Awards, named 'Best Show of the Year' by Radio National in 2002 and has toured nationally and internationally over 5 seasons. Spacemunki has had three seasons thus far and won the Melbourne International Festival Award at the 2007 Melbourne Fringe Festival.

John-Paul Hussey has been working as a writer, performer, director and dramaturge for over a decade. Recently, he has been directing large-scale, site-specific performance installations including The House of Application for the 2005 Melbourne Fringe Festival which won two festival awards, as well as directing cabaret artists such as “The Town Bikes” and touring Europe with the outdoor cabaret circus, “Cabaret at the End of the World” for Cirque Idyllic in 2005 and 2006.

Monkey Media:
“One and a quarter hours of controlled lunacy, by turns bamboozling, compelling and hilarious, held together by the charisma and energy of its performer.” The Age 2007 – Chocolate Monkey

“Hussey is a human dynamo! A consummate comic character actor with a rubber face and a compact build that allows him to glide and prance around the stage like a dancer.” Herald Sun 2007 – Chocolate Monkey

“He switches with an amazing agility between characters, accents, situations, meditations, all the while moving, twisting, contorting.”
Sunday Age, 2004 – Spacemunki
