Three-minute works on multiple stages in three hours. Following the success of its 2007 debut, 180 Seconds in Heaven or Hell is back by popular demand.
All artists in 180 seconds have been handpicked for the 2008 Next Wave Festival. Comedy, theatre, hip-hop, puppetry, contemporary dance, music, video and a drag king – witness them all and more in a night of bite-sized performance treats from a vibrant cross-section of Melbourne and Sydney’s finest contemporary artists.
Heavenly or hellish, this unruly line-up of performers have been given the challenge to creatively express themselves in up to 180 seconds (nudging in the direction of eternal bliss or damnation) and to have a whole lot of fun while doing it.
Round two of 180 Seconds celebrates the diverse and dextrous and features the talents of Post, The Brown Council, Jenn Goodwin, Spat n’ Loogie, The Suitcase Royale, John Pak/Wall of Books, Royal Fam, Gulsen Ozer, VJ Martyn Coutts, with special guests the Bodyelectric dancers. It’s is a who’s who of the Melbourne and Sydney arts scenes, and a fabulous excuse for a party.
180 Seconds in Heaven or Hell is produced and curated by Bec Reid, a contemporary dancer, performer, director and educator. Bec was Artistic Director of Stompin between 2001 and 2006, where she directed seven new works. Her work with Luke George on Stompin’s Home was nominated for a 2008 Green Room Award in the Best Concept and Realisation in Dance category. She has also choreographed for BacktoBack Theatre, NICA and taught at Deakin University.
Bec is currently the 2008 Next Wave Festival’s Associate Producer for Dance. She teaches for Chunky Move and post festival will become Program Producer at Footscray Community Arts Centre.
The 2007 production of 180 Seconds was nominated for a 2008 Green Room Award in the Best Concept and Realisation in Dance category.
