REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE is still a timeless masterpiece. A classic, it's easy to forget how radical this once was. Capturing the youth subculture like no one before, Rebel's tale of gangs, chicken races and the burgeoning sexuality of adolescence is a semi-glamorized portrait of three troubled, frustrated, anguished, and identity-seeking teenagers, Jim, Judy and Plato. They are all outsiders, alienated and outcast from the world and values of parents and adults, who attain maturity through rebellion and tragic circumstances. The final scenes are haunting. A play for anyone who's ever been a teenager.
Set in the 1950s, Rebel Without A Cause "is the story of Jim Stark, a lonely, conflicted teenager from a 'good family' who finds himself in yet another new town, trying to make sense of his surroundings and finding nothing but trouble and a mixed bag of friends. In a whirlwind period of twenty-four hours, Jim discovers true love and great tragedy. Jim Stark is often referred to as the first accurately represented teenager in film and theatre
and he remains the ultimate representation of a misunderstood youth growing up in a modern world.
DALLAS BLAND plays the Jim, the part that made James Dean a star.
JESS BRENT has the part of Judy played in the film by Natalie Wood
ADRIAN FLOR is Plato, made famous by Sal Mineo
