A century on, Mahler’s Titan has lost none of its power to stun and delight. His fervent and sensationally original First Symphony runs the gamut from folk themes to the dark night of the soul and culminates in a triumphant, white hot finale. And not all Beethoven’s compositions are defiant: his Triple Concerto is more like a genial conversation among old friends, especially when performed by the Swiss Piano Trio, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most illustrious chamber groups.
