Kerry-Ella has the kind of presence and voice which echoes the torch singers and screen goddesses of the past. In fact she channels many of the great singers - Edith Piaf, Bette Midler, Shirley Bassey, Eartha Kitt and Peggy Lee. This morning’s carte du jour includes ‘Stormy Weather’, ‘Diamonds Are Forever’, ‘Put The Blame On Mame’, ‘An Old Fashioned Millionaire’, ‘Falling In Love Again’ and ‘Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps’.
Perhaps, no definitely, you’ll fall in love with Kerry-Ella’s rich, husky and seductive singing voice, and her wicked sense of humour, too, as she recalls Mae West’s pearlers and Edith Piaf’s song-poems.
Kerry-Ella trained at the Ensemble Acting Studios, where Lorraine Bayly, Jack Thompson, Reg Livermore, Max Cullen and Henri Szeps honed their craft. She won the Ted Davis Award at the Sydney Cabaret Convention and has appeared on the Mike Walsh Show, in many TV series - including All Saints and the award-winning Streetsmartz - the hit play Mavis Goes to Timor and numerous fabulous cabaret seasons around the world.
Piano Tim Cunniffe; double bass Manoli Vouyoucalos, percussion Daniel Susnjar.
