1918: Europe is torn apart by war. A weary soldier gambles his soul to escape………
This is a groundbreaking collaboration between The Hayloft Project - making waves in the independent theatre scene with their recent productions Spring Awakening and Chekhov Re-Cut: Platonov - and The Orchestra Project - an ensemble including some of Australia's best classical musicians.
Performed over two weeks at the heritage-listed Abbotsford Convent, this project represents a meeting of the most interesting contemporary talents in classical music and theatre. Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale, a reworking of the classic Faust myth within the context of the horrors of World War One, is as innovative now as it was when first performed and The Hayloft Project has brought together just the artists to bring it screaming to life.
