Favourite Shorts Print
In its second year, Favourite Shorts brings together the broader community
to enjoy new short theatrical works (4-20 minutes) by local playwrights.
To reach as many people as possible the venue is a local pub "The
Newie". Mr Jim Koboroff acts in his first play at a young 90 years, whilst
Lucy Carsen is the youngest actor at 17 years. Hence Favourtie Shorts
spans the generations and has something to offer everyone.

Kate Coward, Artistic Director for her second year has negotiated the TV
Film School at the Armidale TAFE to film the production hence providing an
opportunity for its students to develop their editing skills, whilst
providing wonderful archival material of the festival.  Theatre Study
students from the University of New England particapte in production
roles, as actors or directors. Bengi Smith a second year UNE theatre
studies student has taken on the controversial role of Ash, a young man
who has spent his life in a bubble and contemplates his future.  This is
the second play the festival has produced by young Uralla playwright Luke
Brattoni.

This year Favourite Shorts is proud to involve the play Tjum's Story by
Aboriginal playwright Jaluka Rose Quinlan and featuring Aboriginal actor
Barabara Bond as the narrator.

UNE theatre technician Peter O'Donohue directs two plays Return to Sender
and Slideshow.

Local librarian, Martin Mantle directs his own play Port Royal starring
Artisitc Coordinator Phoenix Valore.

Local orthopeadic surgeon Dr Robin Diebold has taken off his hospital
theatre gown to co produce the festival with local nurse Pam Menzies. If
that wasnt enough Robin has written his own play Oedipus Rex and is
directing it.
