Dancenorth’s new production Remember Me will reunite Artistic Director Gavin Webber and renowned Western Australian composer Iain Grandage to create a work of great tenderness and nostalgia, premiering on 8th July to 13th July 2008 as part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music.
Remember Me is the feature production of Dancenorth’s 2008 programme, merging film, dance, live music and theatre, documenting a lifestyle that has largely disappeared from modern Australian life. It will bring to life the social dances of a group of older residents from Charters Towers, an historic township to the west of Townsville, alongside the passions and energy of the Dancenorth’s young, dynamic group of artists.
Gavin Webber said “Remember Me is a meeting place for two different generations of Australians and an insight into the differences and similarities of people. Dance and the body become metaphors for larger concerns about age, life and death, as they both inhabit the same space, one like a memory or premonition of the other”.
Dancenorth has commissioned award winning composer Iain Grandage to compose the live music score that will feature three AFCM musicians; Miki Tsunoda, Kirsty McCahon and Claire Edwardes. Iain last worked with Gavin on the highly acclaimed lawn.
Gavin Webber said “Dancenorth’s work evolves collectively with an ensemble of artists, designers and performers. This production will include the entire Dancenorth ensemble and guest dancer Sarah-Jayne Howard (roadkill and Kaidan) sound designer Luke Smiles (Underground and roadkill), costume designer Sarah Jobling with early development assistance from Grayson Millwood (lawn, roadkill). Australia’s fastest growing contemporary dance-theatre company, Dancenorth is thrilled to assemble a team of this quality and experience.
