OVER 200 ARTISTS ON STAGE

Seen by more than 2 million people around the world, CLASSICAL SPECTACULAR returns exclusively to Melbourne in 2008 with a dazzling all-new laser, lights and special effects show choreographed to some of the world’s best-known classical music tunes.

If you love classical music but perceive the traditional concert hall experience as ‘stuffy and staid’ then don’t miss the magic thrill of CLASSICAL SPECTACULAR.

Over 200 performers fill the stage as renowned English conductor Anthony Inglis, whose witty banter delights audiences around the world, conducts the magnificent Melbourne Symphony Orchestra joined by the MSO Chorus and the Royal Australian Air Force Band. Talented Australian performers violinist Cameron Hill, tenor David Corcoran and bass, David Parkin feature in this year’s stunning production.

Since coming to public attention as the winner of ABC TV’s Operatunity Oz, David Parkin’s career has taken off. He has recorded a CD with ABC Classics, performed roles with Opera Australia and previously appeared with the MSO in their Verdi Gala concert at this year’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

Tenor David Corcoran won the prestigious McDonald’s Operatic Aria Award in 2007.

This year his performances for Opera Australia include roles in la bohème, The Pilgrim’s Progress and his role debut as Lieutenant Pinkerton in Oz Opera’s Madama Butterfly.

Winner of the 2006 Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year award, Melbourne-born violinist Cameron Hill has performed with the Melbourne, Tasmanian and Queensland symphony orchestras amongst others. In 2008 he is an Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artist.

The brainchild of British entrepreneur Raymond Gubbay, CLASSICAL SPECTACULAR was first staged at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October 1989, and since then has performed twice-yearly sell-out seasons there. In addition the show tours the major arenas of the UK, Europe and Australia with huge success.

The magnificent laser light show for CLASSICAL SPECTACULAR is designed by the exceptional talents of Durham Marenghi, who was responsible for the lighting at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin.

As seen on ABC TV, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s CLASSICAL SPECTACULAR DVD/CD (ABC Classics) topped ABC shop bestseller lists upon its release in December 2005.
