Paradise City | Branch Nebula Print
Adelaide Festival Centre's inSPACE program for 2008 kicks off with Paradise City, a spectacular fusion of street-style and dance presented by Australian company Branch Nebula, running from 23 - 26 April at the Space Theatre.

A skater, a b-boy, a BMX rider, an acrobat, a dancer and a fallen diva carve out a pleasure ground from a stark urban space, in the show that turned the Sydney Opera House into a skate-park!

Six figures circle each other, bike teasing acrobat, dancer tangling with singer. Tension builds. Skateboard circles. Wheel on wheel.  Wheel on body.  Body on body. They explode into action. Paradise City harnesses the raw energy of a street-style jam with tight choreography and a live score spanning sumptuous Bach, driving beats, and the crunch of skateboard wheels on concrete.

See Australia's finest urban artists including X-Games Champion BMX rider Simon O'Brien, acrobat Alex Harrison, skateboarder Petera Hona, b-boy Anthony "Lamaroc" Lawang, dancer Kathryn Puie, and singer Inga Liljestrom in a battle to reclaim the city with body, board and bike.

Founded in 1998 Branch Nebula creates distinctive, hybrid movement-based performance combining dance, theatre, acrobatics, music and design to create powerful and visceral experiences for audiences. In addition to touring within Australia, the Sydney-based company has performed in Belgium's prestigious Victoria Festival, and in late 2007 toured Paradise City to Brazil to perform in four dance festivals where they played to sold out houses.

Co-creators Lee Wilson and Mirabelle Wouters say: "The body and the experience of that body in all its viscerality is a primary concern in our work. We embrace the culture around us and beyond the world of theatre, whether attending events like kickboxing, wrestling, speedway, video arcades, BMX competitions, peep shows or just doing our shopping. These aspects of cultural life are what we want to share with our audience, because it's what we know, we live it and we love it."

"An intensely absorbing, lyrical, nightlife street culture fantasia... Lee Wilson and Mirabelle Wouters have created a work of poetic intensity out of everyday play, dance and physical theatre."
