6/7 empty | Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal Print
Experience a moving and compelling dance performance featuring Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal, a passionate performer and talented Master of Choreography student at the VCA.

six sevenths empty is a dance performance that evokes the interaction between an abandoned sister and the dynamic phenomena of a storm. It draws inspiration from ancient creation stories of the Pleaides star constellation mythology, in particular the story of the missing seventh sister. Whilst her six sisters, what, why, when, how, where and who, are forgotten, their star light remains hauntingly absent. The lone dancer embodies any lost soul searching for community and a sense of belonging.

The presentation utilises black box theatre conventions to frame the performance. The performing body is modulated by the principles and techniques of Traditional Indonesian dance, Classical Ballet and American Modern dance, Body Mind Centering, Kiryuho (Japanese martial art) and Contact Improvisation.

“Interestingly all the atoms in human bodies, except hydrogen were produced in stars that later exploded in supernovae. Perhaps the dancer is a unique beam of light, refracted through one great prism. The Seven star Sister's prophetic influences are linked to fate, destiny, judgment, criticism, the flight of birds, the fullness of seasonal cycles, numerical systems and sexual relations. The dance aims to construct a loom of significant associations that invite the audience to consider their personal body mind spirit relationships to natural elements of life and the cycle of birth and death.” Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal
