The Royal New Zealand Ballet is delighted to bring its sizzling season of RED to Sydney. This trio of exciting contemporary works from three outstanding choreographic voices promises to ignite your passion for dance.
Plan to A
Jorma Elo is one of the ‘hot’ choreographers working today. His energetic and inspiring work is based on his experience of working with some of the world’s most respected and groundbreaking choreographers, including William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián and Matz Ek. Plan to A is an abstract work for seven dancers and presents audiences with effervescently energetic choreography. Dressed in stunning red, the dancers move seamlessly across the stage in a highly stylised, mesmerizing flow of movement.
Abhisheka
Sydney-based choreographer Adrian Burnett has created a mystical, thought-provoking work that is both sensuous and hypnotic in effect. Set to John Psathas’ evocative score of the same name, this abstract work is inspired by the ritualistic and sacrificial cleansing of the chosen one. With a colour palette of rich, warm golds, the intricate and captivating movement showcases the talents Burnett has to offer.
Equilibrium
Performed recently to audiences in China, Equilibrium by New Zealander Cameron McMillan showcases the dancers' athleticism. Intensely physical and fast, the work has a driving energy derived from Philip Glass's violin concerto, with layers upon layers of contemporary musical progression. Costumed in dramatic red and black, Equilibrium explores the tensions between resistance and flow.
