Capgun Productions, one of Perth's most well-known and respected
independent theatre companies, continues to bring award-winning
independent theatre to Perth audiences with their newest endeavour by
Perth writer Toby Schmitz, Chicks Will Dig You!, June 5-23 at the Blue Room Theatre.
Winner of the acclaimed ANPC/New Dramatists Award in 2004, Chicks Will Dig You!
played to a sell-out premiere season in Sydney. Perth will now host the
very first production of this work outside its birthplace of NSW.
Inclusion in The Blue Room View also provides a first for ex-pat Toby
Schmitz who, despite his growing national profile, has not yet seen one
of his plays produced in his home state of WA.
"It's an exciting prospect for me," admits Schmitz. "No matter how well
known you become interstate, it's a different kind of buzz to see your
work produced in the place you consider home."
Chicks Will Dig You!
is a hysterical and cynical look at the singles scene and the lies that
accompany many a potential pick up, a topic that will resonate with
young and old alike.
Explored through 'The Hunt', the
world's most successful pick-up guide, the play's unwitting hero Jasper
is quickly immersed in the savage inner-city dating world armed with a
new set of rules.
The Chicks Will Dig You!
team boasts extensive professional experience within the performing
arts in both Perth and Sydney. This WA premiere season will reunite an
ensemble originally hailing largely from Western Australia, and
committed to bringing the two coasts closer together in their pursuit
for cut-throat independent theatre that speaks to the everyday person.

is directed by Aaron Beach, with set design by award-winning Sydney
Designer Nicholas Dare, and featuring the emerging talents of Richard
Kessell and Tom O'Sullivan alongside Alexa Ashton, Robert Jago and
Shannen Still.
