A thousand doors, a thousand windows, a voice and video work devised and performed by Soprano Xenia Hanusiak will be performed at the Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival for one night only on Sunday 2 March at The Vault at 8.30 pm. A thousand doors, a thousand windows has enjoyed unprecedented success since its debut at the Melbourne festival 2004 and in the words of The Age music critic Clive O'Connell 'has enjoyed exceptional public approbation' (Opera, opera 2006). The work has been in constant demand on the national and international circuit and this Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival presentation is the first of many performances for 2008.
Described by The Australian as the High Priestess of Harmony soprano Xenia Hanusiak realises this evocative cinematic experience for voice and video. Contemplating the theme of the dream of belonging, Constantine Koukias's musical landscape inspired by contemporary and ancient chants and Cazerine Barry's images combine to promise a night that is arresting, powerful and engrossing.
This week Xenia Hanusiak gave the premiere performance of Urban Rooms, a new projection installation with Viennese photographer Yenny Huber and Viennese composer Marcus Zobl at the Cell Theatre at the Sydney Arts School. Huber recently presented an exhibition called Ballroom which highlighted the Flinders Street Ballroom to a great response. Urban Rooms will be travelling to Vienna and London later this year.
Following the Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival Xenia will be presenting a new opera cabaret show with Norwegian pianist Ellen Kristin Ugelvik at the Glamour Bar in Shanghai called 'I bringing sexy back'
