Mommie & the Minister Print
‘Sometimes a mother’s love can be… DEADLY!’

Following a sell-out season at Melbourne’s famous La Mama Theatre, Sisters Grimm is proud to present their shlock-horror “thriller” MOMMIE & THE MINISTER at the 2008 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Angelic twins Edmund and Harriet Lovely are your average six-year-olds… Except they live in a basement, play with rats, and are in their late twenties. Locked downstairs by their demented Mommie, the children have waited twenty years to meet “the Minister”. Could murder be their only escape?!

Mommie & the Minister is a hysterical celebration of high-camp trash melodrama and homage to B-films like Mommie Dearest, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, and Flowers in the Attic. Melbourne’s most homicidal drag-queen Missfit is “truly grotesque” (Herald Sun) as the terrifying, scenery-chewing MOMMIE: seven feet tall in a towering beehive, resplendent in glamorous Joan Crawford couture and poised for MURDER!

ABOUT SISTERS GRIMM

Sisters Grimm is a queer DIY production company formed by Ash Flanders and Declan Greene, two trash-talking homos on a suicide mission to take out kitchen-sink dramas and boorish political theatre. Together they create brutally funny gross-out theatre for outsiders, bedwetters and the A.D.D. afflicted – inspired by John Waters, Team Troma, the Cockettes, Chicago’s Annoyance Theatre, and N.Y.’s Talent Family. Productions to date include chubby sexploitation romp FAT CAMP (2006); the epic trash-musical BUMTOWN (2007); and MOMMIE & THE MINISTER (2007), which is to be remounted in 2008 for the Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals.

“MISSFIT IS TRULY GROTESQUE… FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY! GO SEE IT.”
Kate Herbert, Herald Sun (TOP THEATRE PICK OF 2007)

“SISTERS GRIMM ARE LIKE AMERICAN FILM DIRECTOR JOHN WATERS ON CRACK”
Cameron Woodhead, The Age

“[SISTERS GRIMM] ARE A BREATH OF WEIRD-SMELLING FRESH AIR IN THE MELBOURNE THEATRE SCENE”
Tony McMahon, Inpress
