Dyuetto
(Japanese for Duet) will present three very different duets from three
very different cities. A dance for 2, Dyuetto will explore the
connection to self and others – the memories, emotions and desires that
emerge from the everyday at Dancehouse from 28 March – 1 April 2007
Dyuetto is an international exchange between Dancehouse (Melbourne), Dance Box (Osaka, Japan) and STRUT Dance (Perth, WA).
Dyuetto will present duets from Japanese artists, Jareo Osamu and Terada Misako, Perth independent artists Tele Sete and Rachael Arianne Ogle and Melbourne artists, Emma Strapps and sound designer Dean Linguey. Acclaimed Melbourne dance artist, Yumi Umiumare,
will perform at the Contemporary Dance Festival at the Dance Box in
Osaka in February 6-12, 2007 as part of this international exchange.
It might be sunny tomorrow is the duet performed and choreographed by Jareo Osamu and Terada Misako.
This duet came about after a chance meeting several years ago when the
artists met a couple in Japan; the woman from Japan was married to an
Australian from Tasmania. Through their conversations, a number of
stories emerged – stories about the couple, about the dancers and
stories of others from another time and place.
These stories were the starting point for It might be sunny tomorrow
and looks at what exists between people, what flows between them: from
where it emerges, and how they live with it, keeping the balance
between themselves and others.
Choreographed and performed by Sete Tele and Rachel Arianne Ogle (Perth), N_TN_GLD
explores a narrative of space and co-habitation where the viewer is
drawn by energy and presence of the work into a static of charged
noise.
Melbourne choreographer and performer Emma Strapps will be working with Sound Designer Dean Linguey in her duet, Automorph.
This is a duet of a different kind – her partner is the soundscape, in
which the movement of the dancer and the live musician interact to
create this new work.
Automorph explores the inter-play of energy between body and
organs, ease and dis-ease, sound and movement. Born from the rumbling
of our minds and through the negotiation of sound and movement we
merge, transform, and mutate every living cell of our collective body.
A post show forum will take place on Thursday March 29 that will be chaired by new Dancehouse Artistic Director David Tyndall and special guest Olivia Millard.
A series of workshops will be facilitated by the Jareo Osamu and Terada Misako from March 19 – 21 and another two workshops will be facilitated by Sete Tele and Olivia Millard on March 21 and 22.
