Do that voodoo that you do so well…
Estranged teenage twins, fostered out at the tender age of four, reunite at their father’s funeral.
Their pursuit of money and meaning leads them to a city rooftop where
‘Uncle’ drills a hole through their ankles, bolts them together and
disappears into a pigeon coop. Wade, just another nice kid who dreams of maiming and killing, decides to act for the first time in his life.
GRACE explores the resurgence of retribution driven justice in
this modern era of high school massacres, suicide bombers, politically
sanctioned torture and the increasing popularity of ‘payback’.
Avoiding gratuitous blood and guts, GRACE uses dark humour and
satire to tell a surreal present-day cautionary tale. Challenging the
audience to focus on the motivations behind violent acts, and why
constraints on such acts continue to decrease, it asks:
Can Grace make a difference?
GoD BE IN MY MouTH (GBIMM) was founded as a ‘not-for-profit’ experimental theatre company in Melbourne in 2000. Their first production Piglet won Best Production of an Original Work, Melbourne Fringe Festival 2001. This was followed by The Glass Garden which featured in the 2004 Sydney Festival. For GBIMM, Brennan
combines the ethos of punk, the secrecy of the underground and the
aesthetics of: contemporary dance, death metal, corporeal mime and
film, to articulate and explore the narrative.
Known for performing in weird and wonderful spaces, including a
back-lane, an ex-munitions factory and an old bakery, this will be the
first time GBIMM has performed in a traditional theatre space.
“Brennan’s work opens the door to the magical from within the fabric of the everyday.” Richard Murphett, Real Time 2002
