Keeper Print
KeeperSteven Snell’s fast-paced thriller Keeper comes to Sydney for the first time with a strictly limited season at Belvoir St Downstairs Theatre.

The winner of the George Fairfax Memorial Play Award in 2005, Keeper creates a tense stand-off between three men and builds a mystery that will intrigue till the end.

The drama unfolds in the factory where Russel works. Late one Friday night he receives an unwelcome visit from his brother Kevin and Kevin’s best friend Neil, who have fled a fatal brawl at a party and need Russel’s help to evade the police.

Russel, who’s trying to turn his life around after nine years in jail, doesn’t want a bar of it. To him, something about Kevin and Neil’s story doesn’t add up. But as he probes further, he is unprepared for the dark secrets he unearths.

How far will Russel go to protect his brother if he turns out to be a murderer?

“Keeper is an engaging study of shifting triangular loves, trusts and loyalties. (It) grabs our attention by throwing us into a believable high stakes situation. The writer does not let go of the tension and continues to push the drama to increasing intensity.” Judges of the George Fairfax Memorial Play Award

“The writing has a Eugene O’Neil resonance, as tarnished lives unravel in a compelling litany of half truths, innuendo and barely contained violence.”
