He went looking for love and found a world stood still…
Douglas travels from Australia to Europe to re-kindle a brief affair with Barbara, a European actress. When the two are reunited, Douglas quickly discovers his misjudgement. In the process of unearthing Barbara’s true feelings he makes some important discoveries on the reality of European history: alluring facades conceal troubled hearts.
Twenty years since its first production, Michael Gow’s Europe is a modern Australian classic. This timely restaging is presented by Melbourne’s promising new independent company, Cut Lunch Productions, and boasts a stellar cast including acclaimed actress Caroline Brazier (MTC’s Two Brothers, Ray’s Tempest and 2007’s Enlightenment), and the talented Travis Cotton.
Throughout his prestigious career, Michael Gow has worked with every major theatre company in Australia. Michael
has received two NSW Premier’s Awards for Best Play, two Sydney Theatre
Critics Circle Awards, an AWGIE Award and an AFI Award. He is currently
Artistic Director of the Queensland Company.
As a director and producer Eddy Segal has staged challenging and rewarding productions under the banner of Cut Lunch Productions,
a company he set up with a commitment to producing intelligent,
energetic and stimulating theatre, with a strong focus on Australian
works. His first production was a millennial, Australian take on
Goethe’s epic, Faust. Other career highlights include acclaimed productions of Coconut Island: The Last Resort and Four Small Deaths.
