Ron Sexsmith Print
Seventeen years. Eleven albums. And still RON SEXSMITH is the music world’s best kept secret. But this secret has been building for so long that it’s not so much a matter of if, but when the dam will break.  Be prepared for a flood when RON SEXSMITH returns for a national tour, his first with his long time touring band, in March 2008.

“I’ve always been a bit under the radar,” says the Toronto singer/songwriter, “so I’m amazed that I’ve been able to keep making records and to build on what I guess you could call a cult following. That seems to grow with each record, so the tortoise approach of slow and steady suits me.”

It suits a lot of other music lovers too. SEXSMITH’s dedicated, and rather vocal, gang of admirers includes the likes of, kd lang,  Elton John (who says, quite rightly, that Ron has the voice of an angel) and Elvis Costello who has called Ron’s first major label debut an album he would be listening to for the next twenty years.  Diverse artists Lucinda Williams and Coldplay handpicked Ron to open major US tour. He has recorded with Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Been covered by Rod Stewart. And is always guaranteed a packed house in Australia.  Ron Sexsmith is simply an artist’s artist.

“Sexsmith is one of the finest songwriters we have at our disposal”
SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

“A clinic of song smitherly, gentle melodies, subtle turns of musical phrase, catchy choruses and superb storying telling showcase a master at the peak of his craft.  Canada’s next Leonard Cohen” SOULSHINE CANADA

Nominated for Songwriter of the Year and Roots & Traditional Album of the Year at the 2006 Junos (Canada’s music awards) SEXSMITH has quietly taken on legend status in his home country. As The Toronto Star noted: “Ron Sexsmith has produced a body of quality work that’s unequalled in contemporary Canadian music in originality and musical daring.”

“Sometimes you hear someone say all the great songs have been written, but it is amazing what can be done with a limited amount of chords and notes,” says SEXSMITH. “The challenge is to find a melody you can call your own and a fresh point of view on an old theme.”
