Sitting
in an automobile was where I first remember understanding how drama
works...Hidden in the back seat of a sedan, I quickly realised how deep
the chasm or intense the claustrophobia could be inside your average
family car -Neil LaBute
From behind the wheel of an automobile, Neil Labute (The Shape
of Things, bash, This Is How It Goes) reveals a thinly veiled
kidnapping, a break-up gone horribly wrong, the awkward consequences of
blacking out and waking up naked in a hotel room, and much more, all
with his trademark acerbic wit.
The Act-O-Matic 3000 (Green Room Award Winners - Best
Independent Theatre Production - The Laramie Project) is proud to start
its 2007 season with the Australian premiere of controversial
playwright Labute's thrilling short play cycle. The production
also marks the beginning of the company's year-long residency at the
Cromwell Road Theatre in South Yarra, made possible with generous
support from the City of Stonninqton.
Director David Rydinq has previously helmed projects for the
Perth Theatre Company and The Western Australian Academy of Performing
Arts, and leads the cast of ten into the 'creepy' world that lies
beneath the everyday.
