Love Song Dedications Print
“It all seems different in the dark…”

Late-night love songs on the radio are the inspiration for a new Australian play.

Love Song Dedications is a sexy romantic comedy that centres around a daisy chain of sexual encounters in which A sleeps with B who sleeps with C and so on until we finally work our way back to A.

“We visit pairs of lovers ranging from an Australian cricketer to an accountant to a groupie,” said Vagg. “All of the characters are seeking happiness. They examine their pasts and presents and try to find meaning and love - and sex.”

During the play, which is based on Arthur Schnitzler’s classic, La Ronde, some of the characters call up “Love Song Dedications”, a late night radio program where callers request their favourite love melodies.

“Some of the relationships and stories are more serious than others,”
says Vagg. “Some have been played for comedy; others are quite sad. Which is sex and love all over; some of it’s serious and some impossible to take seriously at all.”

Love Song Dedications features a cast of some of Brisbane’s most exciting new actors, including Louise Alston (Trivia), Nick Backstrom (Micro-Trip), Kirsty Cash (Young Lions), Tim Dashwood (The Year Nick McGowan Came to Stay), Francesca Gasteen (The Boys), Sarah Kennedy (Creche and Burn, Hitchcock Blonde), Cindy Nelson (All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane), Michael Priest (Rent), Andy Ryan (The Black Balloon) and Candice Storey (Perfect Skin).

Vagg is the writer of the film All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane which recently had its world premiere at the 2007 BIFF. His previous theatre hits include the sell out success Trivia (Newtown Theatre 2006, Metro Arts Theatre 2006), Rebel Tour (Old Fitzroy 2005, La Mama 2006), and the AWGIE-nominated Friday Night Drinks (performed in London, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane).
