In this exhilarating program, multi-talented Australian conductor
Nicholas Milton is joined by the 2006 Symphony Australia Young
Performer of the Year, Cameron Hill. From the storm at sea depicted in
Berlioz’ rousing concert overture, the program moves to a much-loved
Romantic concerto by fellow Frenchman Camille Saint-Saëns - his
bewitchingly elegant Concerto No. 3, written for the great Spanish
violin virtuoso Pablo Sarasate. Following the glowingly serene mood
established by Richard Meale’s short work for strings, the concert’s
second half concludes with a shining masterpiece by Czech composer
Antonin Dvorák. His Eighth Symphony has a festive brightness, imbued
with the glow of folk music and a love of nature, that cannot fail to
bring delight.
Concerts in regional Victoria and outer metropolitan Melbourne are a
vital part of the MSO’s performance year. As part of the Centenary
season celebrations, the MSO will bring great music and artists to
venues around the State.
