Miriam Margolyes is one of the most knowledgeable and brilliant interpreters of Charles Dickens and her wonderful sense of humour shines through as she traces the startling similarities of the women in Dickens’ work and in his life.
Among the 23 different characters (both male and female) Miriam brings to life to tell Charles Dickens’ story, there is the Old Curiosity Shop’s Little Nell, the loyal Mrs Micawber from David Copperfield (inspired by his own mother), and the cold, embittered Miss Havisham from Great Expectations. Laughter and tears combine in this entertaining show and some surprising revelations are made.
Miriam Margolyes has enjoyed huge success with Dickens’ Women
around the world and her West End season in the Duke of York Theatre
earned her an Olivier nomination.
The acclaimed British actress also won an LA Critics Circle Award for her role as Flora Finching
in the film of Little Dorrit and she has become a favourite with
filmgoers for her many other roles, including that of Professor Sprout
in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, The Age of Innocence,
Ladies in Lavender, and Being Julia.
She is also the presenter of the popular BBC documentary series, Dickens In America, screened recently on ABC Television.
The 2007 Australian and New Zealand tour is proudly presented by Andrew McKinnon.
