The great French twentieth century master Olivier Messiaen described his Turangalila-symphonie as "a song of love; a hymn to the superhuman joy that transcends everything." It is a colossal work drenched in rich and exotic harmonies, propelled by leaping joyous rhythm, and radiating colour and unbridled energy, the supreme showpiece for a great conductor and a virtuoso orchestra at the height of its powers.
