Bliss | Bareboards Productions Print

Bareboards Productions

Bliss is a surreal fantasy whose narratives snake their way between reality and dream, both outrageous and perceptive by turns.

The Stage UK

Written by
Olivier Choinière

Directed by
Shannon Murphy

With
Krew Boylan, Simon Corfield, Libby Fleming and Matt Hardie

Shannon Murphy returns to B Sharp after her remarkable production of My Name is Rachel Corrie, with the Australian premiere of Bliss. A visual and visceral feast which explores the cult of celebrity, Bliss intertwines the lives of three very different women: the pop-goddess ‘Celine’, the despairing Isabel and an ordinary check-out chick. This is a constant blend of reality and fantasy in a striking fusion of comedy and horror.

Québécois playwright Olivier Choinière offers a wild reality check for our modern world. Translated by one of the UK’s most influential playwrights, Caryl Churchill, Bliss certainly marches to the beat of its own drum.
