Red Stitch Actors Theatre
Lobby Hero
Written by Kenneth Lonergan
Directed by Denis Moore
10 June – 11 July

"Smart, funny...drama that derives its strength from Lonergan's keen ear for dialogue. (A) powerful tale" – New York Daily News

“Mr. Lonergan is a masterly storyteller and a wry observer of the compromise and corruption that rules society…One hopes that the sweet scent of Mr. Lonergan's success will waft through the theater and screen worlds, inspiring truth and art, defying pretension and ostentation.” – New York Times

Lobby Hero is New York writer, Kenneth Lonergan’s funny and poignant drama about four flawed and confused people desperately clinging to their integrity in a society that thrives on injustice.

Jeff is a night security guard in the lobby of a city high-rise, trying to get his life together after being thrown out of the navy. The lobby, however, is no sanctuary from the world – Jeff is drawn into the moral dilemma of his supervisor, William, whose brother is suspected of a violent crime.

Jeff is also swept up in the lives of rookie policewoman, Dawn and her hero-cop partner, Bill as all four characters grapple with what is expected of them, and how to free themselves of compromise and immorality – the slippery slope that leads good people to do bad things.

Kenneth Lonergan is the author of This is Our Youth and the screenplays, Analyze This and Gangs of New York (which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 2002). He wrote and directed You Can Count on Me, starring Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo, nominated for Best Original Screenplay in 2000, and winner of the Grand Jury Prize for Best Drama at Sundance Film Festival.

Lobby Hero was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Best Play and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Play.

Director Denis Moore’s previous Red Stitch productions include Harvest (Green Room Award winner 2006), After Miss Julie, The Country and Marie Antoinette – The Colour Of Flesh.

Red Stitch Ensemble members Daniel Frederiksen and Tim Potter (as Bill and Jeff) are joined by Erin-Jean Norvill as Dawn and Chris Kirby (This Is How It Goes for Red Stitch in 2007) as William. Design is by Shaun Gurton (After Miss Julie), with lighting design by Danny Pettingill (Red Sky Morning/Pool, No Water for Red Stitch and Green Room Award Winner for Platonov).
