IGNATIANS MUSICAL SOCIETY

Celebrate the story of Les Misérables

Ignatians Musical Society invite the people of Brisbane to ‘come and hear the people sing’ in its latest production of one of the 20th century’s greatest theatre experiences, Les Misérables.

Ignatians Musical Society will bring the production to life over five weeks at the Schonell Theatre, UQ from September 18th until October 16th with a cast of 40 performers from all over South East Queensland.

Set in Paris in the early 1800s, a time of extreme political unrest and revolution, Les Misérables follows the lives of people struggling for love, forgiveness, equality and freedom from oppression.

Director, Simone de Haas says “whether you’ve seen it once or seen it twenty times the music and story of Les Misérables stays with you forever”. Songs in the show such as ‘Bring him home’, ‘I dreamed a dream’, ‘Empty Chairs at Empty Tables’ and ‘The People’s Song’ will play on the audience’s mind for some time after they’ve seen the show.

As a professional director, Simone de Haas brings with her an overwhelming amount of depth and experience to the production having run her own production company, Mixed Company successfully for fifteen years. In addition, Simone has been at the helm of many of Ignatian’s most recent musical successes, having directed Into the Woods, West Side Story and the Brisbane community theatre premiere of CATS.

President Bryn Griffiths states “Ignatians is lucky to have two brilliantly talented Musical Directors in Harmony Lentz and Edgar Chan”. Harmony Lentz has experience conducting and playing in orchestras throughout Queensland. Her gifted work has been heard in Ignatians Musical Society’s most successful shows, CATS, West Side Story, Les Miserables and our Showstoppers Concert series.

Edgar Chan, a graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music is making his debut as Musical Director with Ignatians, however he has played in the orchestra for Into the Woods and many of Ignatians production rehearsals. Mr Chan states that “audiences will be amazed at the talent that this cast and orchestra have to offer”

Mr Griffiths, says the group is thrilled to be able to present yet again the ever so timeless and heart wrenching Les Misérables. “By the end of the show I guarantee you there will not be a dry eye in the house, it really is a moving piece of theatre and the music will take you on an emotional journey””

With ticket prices at $45.00 for Adults, $35.00 for Concession and $125.00 for a Family (two Adults, two Concessions), it is truly a fantastic opportunity to enjoy some professional theatre at a not so professional price!

Les Misérables will run for five weeks from September 18 to 16 October at the Schonell Theatre, University of Queensland with performances held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at 7.30pm. Matinee performances will be held from the 2nd week on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 1.30pm along with one Wednesday performance at 7.30pm on October 14th.
