McReele | Ensemble Theatre Print
Darius McReele (Kenneth Ransom) is an African-American death row inmate convicted of murdering a young white man.  Rick Dayne (Ben Ager) is a journalist intrigued by Darius’ claims of innocence and his ideas on prison reform.  When Rick meets the charismatic prisoner, he feels compelled to get Darius’ eighteen year-old murder conviction overturned.  Rick’s girlfriend, Katya (Ivy Mak), is worried that Darius is too good to be true, while Darius’ wife Opal (Pamela Jikiemi) is not so happy to see him on the outside.  With freedom, Darius can lead the life he wants, become a political speaker, run for senate or perhaps even one day US President?

Darius’  extraordinary background and magnetic personality make him a darling of the lecture circuit, leading to national attention and political viability. Even though Rick believes in Darius, questions remain as to what actually happened on that fateful day.

When Darius finally comes face to face with Jim Cragen (Gary Baxter), the father of the murdered boy, Darius will face a truth that even he may not be able to handle.

‘Simply put this show is a rush… Go. Laugh. Think. Wonder. Agree. Disagree. Question.  Go again to grapple with the torrent of ideas and emotions unleashed…’ EDGE

‘Like John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt, it scrutinises moral certainty and the suitability of a man to hold a position of power and influence.’  VARIETY

‘A juicy crime-and-politics thriller…’  TIME OUT
