Colder | Pussycatomoko Print
What if someone you love vanished without a trace?

Kicking off the 2008 Griffin Stablemates season is Colder, a powerful exploration of the events surrounding a child and a man gone missing.  Colder won the R.E Ross Trust Award and was short-listed for the 2007 Griffin Award. Inspired by the unexplained disappearance of Simon Knight in 2005, Colder is a unique contemporary Sydney story. It will make its world premiere at the SBW Stables Theatre.

A young boy is separated from his mother and goes missing in Disneyland. Adrift in the artificial world of giant mice and noisy parades, nobody can account for what happened in the seven frantic hours before he’s found. Years later his life seems normal; stable; happy. But something about that day haunts him. Something about that day remains unresolved. And then, he disappears again …

Both challenging and absorbing, Colder explores the infinite unknowns surrounding missing persons. It examines the fog of purgatory that engulfs those left behind. Lyrical, poignant and often very funny Colder is new Australian writing at its best.

Colder will be brought to life by a cast of six, including recent NIDA graduates Jamie Irvine, Catherine Terracini and Matt Walker. Walker recently finished a feature film in China with Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Long term NIDA teacher/actor Karen Vickery will also take to the stage.

Colder is presented by new company Pussycatomoko, a company dedicated to staging contemporary writing that challenges the way audiences think about theatre. It is a partnership between Katrina Douglas and Lachlan Philpott, a duo who met while studying directing at VCA, have worked in theatre for over ten years.

Philpott completed the NIDA Playwrights Studio in 2003. While his plays have been acclaimed in Victoria this is the first staging in Sydney. His other plays include Bison, Catapult, and Air Torture.
