Hailed as the most ambitious American play of our time, Tony Kushner’s Angels in America – Part One: Millennium Approaches seamlessly blends realism and fantasy in a provocative, enticing journey through politics, sex, religion and identity.
Subtitled ‘A gay fantasia on national themes’, everything is fair game in this sprawling epic of life and love in the time of AIDS. From The Bronx to Salt Lake City to San Francisco, via Antarctica and the Kremlin, a cultural melting pot of Mormons, Jews, African Americans, gays, angels and drag queens all figure in this witty, brave and life-affirming play.

New Theatre is excited to welcome back director Alex Galeazzi, whose ability to create stunning visual theatre was so powerfully evident in his production of Alana Valentine’s Singing the Lonely Heart (2006). He is joined by assistant director Neil Gooding, Simon Stollery as voice and dialect coach, and a design team comprising recent NIDA graduate Brigid Dighton (set), Michael John Schell (lighting), Alice Morgan (costumes), Panos Couros (sound) and John Henry Martin (projected images).
The experienced and talented cast includes Abigail Austin, Laurence Coy, Elaine Hudson, Angus King, Ray Chong Nee, Beejan Olfat, Tyran Park and Jane Phegan.
