Heroes | Queensland Theatre Company Print
Heroes | Queensland Theatre CompanyQueensland Theatre Company in association with Riverside Theatres present Heroes at Riverside Theatres from Wednesday 26 March for five performances only.  Written by Gerald Sibleyras and translated by Tom Stoppard, this is a story that is both poignant and hilarious, starring Robert Alexander, Max Gillies and Dennis Olsen,

Set in rural France in 1959, time is running out for three WWI veterans, until they hatch a daring plan to seize the day – their own great escape from the nursing home!

Our three ex-Musketeers, Henri, Gustave and Philippe, spend their autumn years reflecting upon the peculiar circumstances of their equally peculiar nursing home.  Will Philippe survive Sister Madeleine’s obsession with birthdays? Can Gustave ever get past the front gate? How will Henri woo his young school teacher? And is there more to the stone dog than meets the eye? Stoppard’s Olivier Award winning translation of Sibleyras’ gentle comedy sparkles with the master playwright’s trademark wit and wordplay.

Robert Alexander was a founding member of The Hunter Valley Theatre Company performing in productions including The Glass Menagerie and Educating Rita. As a member of the Nimrod Theatre Company he appeared in 20 productions including Richard III, Much Ado About Nothing  and Variations. Other theatre credits include Torch Song Trilogy, for which he won the Victorian Green Room Award, The Threepenny Opera for Queensland Theatre Company; Daylight Saving for Marian Street Theatre and Dead White Males for the Sydney Theatre Company; He most recently appeared in Bell Shakespeare's productions of Measure For Measure and Wars Of The Roses (2005), The Comedy Of Errors (2006, 2004 and 2002), The Servant Of Two Masters (2005 and 2004) and As You Like It.  Robert's television credits include productions such as Police Rescue, All Saints, Home And Away, Neighbours, and he has also appeared such films as Empty Beach and Muriel's Wedding.

Max Gillies is one of the most recognisable faces in Australian theatre. In the 1980s, his satirical take on public figures on stage and screen won him fame and notoriety. Max has starred in theatre performances such as Run For Your Wife, The Club, Noises Off, The Merry Widow and Happy Days. However, he will always be best known for his brilliant political characterisations. Max Gillies received rave reviews for his most recent show Your Dreaming.

Dennis Olsen has a record of stage successes throughout Australia, playing major roles with leading companies such as the State Theatre Company of South Australia, the Melbourne Theatre Company and the Sydney Theatre Company. He has appeared in productions such as The Crucible, Private Lives, Six Characters In Search Of An Author, The Three Sisters, Kafka Dances and Oedipus Rex. Dennis has starred in new productions of HMS Pinafore, The Mikado and The Gondoliers. Most recently Dennis appeared in The Lady in the Van for Sydney Theatre Company, The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe on a national tour, Noises Off for the South Australian Theatre Company, and Candide for the Perth International Arts Festival. In1987 Dennis was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to the performing arts.
