Returning is a program of short works arising from an exploration of ballads. The works are the culmination of workshops at VCA Puppetry led by internationally acclaimed puppeteers Eric Bass and Ines Zeller Bass from Sandglass Theater (USA).
A ballad is a song or poem that tells a story. The stories at the core of Returning are ever so gently evoked as the beautiful puppets reveal complimentary worlds: not illustrating the ballads but working to comment, contradict or complete the narratives, revealing the song lines that run through, around or within the stories.
This project is supported by VCA Production: lighting and sound design, stage and production management, as well as puppet, set and costume design and construction.
Since late September, Eric Bass and Ines Zeller Bass have been at the VCA, conducting a Puppet Theater intensive in Puppet Design and Construction, Performance Techniques and Play Making. Eric and Ines provided participants the means to focus their exploration working toward this special performance season.
