“She’s frightening, alarming, but very, very funny.” Melbourne Star
Would-be divas take note. Following the spectacular success of Bite Me, Yana Alana, our favourite pottymouthed cabaret diva is back to star in Bite Me Harder, featuring her all-girl sideshow band THA PARANAS and special guests THE TOWN BIKES.
A performance poet with a vicious tongue, Yana Alana sings like an angel and dances like a gazelle. A night with Yana typically includes a roller-coaster ride of tantrums, tears, the hurling of targeted abuse, divine singing, acrobatic dancing, burlesque and some incisive home truths. Whatever her mood, get set for a night of hysterics as Yana Alana says it how it really is.
The lunacy reaches excessive proportions as Yana clashes with her cheeky sideshow band THA PARANAS – Bec Matthews on drums, Anya Reynolds on keyboards and Frances Evans on double bass – as well as the notorious first ladies of crazed adagio, THE TOWN BIKES – Gabi Barton and Carla Yamine.
Yana Alana is the alter ego of Sarah Ward, also known as MC Sheila from renowned comedy duo SistaShe. Sarah is a cabaret artist, musician, composer, writer and performer. She is currently composing pieces for the Women’s Circus, where she teaches voice weekly. Bite Me Harder is directed by Anni Davey, a circus performer and director (formerly of Circus Oz) who is currently a Board Member of the Melbourne Fringe.
Bite Me was the winner of the 2007 Melbourne Fringe Cabaret Award. It was nominated for seven Green Room Awards in 2008, as well as winning Best Director.
Bite Me Harder is presented by FULL TILT at the Arts Centre, which supports works by the brightest and most daring independent performance artists from around the country.
WARNING: Contains very, very rude words that will make your short and curlies frizz with shock and delight.
“For those of you who know you can handle it, I implore you, don’t miss Bite Me, because you will bite yourself for missing it!” Australian Stage
