AFI award winning actress Bojana Novakovic, will land back in Melbourne from filming 7 Pounds beside Will Smith in LA, in June to start rehearsing her English language adaptation of the Serbian text FAKE PORNO. This collection of stories, narrated through the eyes of a taxi driver explores the underbelly of Serbian culture, reveals snippets of life in the back seat of his taxi - the confessional ground of Belgrade and its typical inhabitants.
Set in the likes of an underground Belgrade bar, FAKE PORNO, is a lively place both tragic and depressive. Televisions project local Serbian news, dance channels, and the sounds close in on you. Food and drink is served by Serbian ladies, in heavily accented English and little tolerance for indecision – watch out.
Heckling is welcome… speaking over performers is welcome… show interruptions are welcome….
Think of it as a night out in a space you have never seen, been or heard of, but feel totally comfortable to say anything in…do anything… welcome to Belgrade.
Presented by Ride On, an independent theatre company headed by Novakovic with colleague Tanya Goldberg in collaboration with LUPA/ art in Northcote, FAKE PORNO will have a 2 week season from July 28 until August 10 2008 as part of LUPA/ arts collaborative residency program, presenting cross- disciplinary contemporary works.
Ride On’s presentation of Dennis Kelly’s Debris, was a huge success in the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 2006. In July at B Sharp Ride On is presenting An Oak Tree by Tim Crouch and in October Family Stories, also translated by Bojana Novakovic will premiere at the Griffin Theatre in Sydney.
Bojana Novakovic, is a well recognized young actress in television, film and theatre. Her credits include: Malthouse Theatre’s productions of Criminology and Eldorado, Melbourne Theatre Company’s Female of the Species, the ShowTime series Satisfaction, ABC’s Marking Time and films including Solo, Optimisti and Thunderstruck.
