"They're not fairy tales. They're our stories, the ones we started when we were kids...that we were stopped from finishing."
A brand new work for teenagers by St Martins Youth Arts Centre, Wanderlands is a gripping, political fantasy featuring a live soundscape, puppetry and a cast of fourteen fantastic teenage performers.
Flying in the face of the growing perception of lazy teenagers as devil-may-care “Naughty Coreys”, Wanderlands explores a not-too-distant future in which teenagers are enslaved to the workforce and are being mysteriously struck down by the “Curse”, an unknown and deadly illness.
Featuring a chorus of beatnik jazz cats, human-birds, spacemen and rabid lawyers, Wanderlands is full of beautiful images, striking text and very contemporary perspectives on teenage ideology.
Wanderlands has been mounted with the assistance of 4 teenage Artistic Mentorees in direction, design, lighting and stage management.
