L'art Du Déplacement
Verb
1. Derived from Parkour, with the aim of moving from one point to another using the body and the surrounding environment to create movement that focuses on the aesthetic. As with Parkour, L’art Du Deplacement can be practiced in both rural.
Part live action, part film, Get A Grip is based on a raw yet refined approach to dynamic physical movement. The art of Parkour tests the physical, mental and cultural limitations of human movement as the body meets with natural landscapes and man-made structures in unexpected and awe-inspiring ways.
For only three nights, the laneways of North Melbourne will be transformed from concrete jungle to urban playground as Trace Elements run, vault, jump and climb over obstacles in the most fluid and flowing manner possible. Testing the boundaries of human ability, they perform death-defying leaps and jaw-dropping moves, stunts and tricks across the inner city laneways and a purpose built structure within the Arts House, North Melbourne Town Hall.
So much more than You-Tube grade displays of physical prowess, Get A Grip is a raw, no holds barred approach to physical movement. Through the on-site performance and film footage, Trace Elements demonstrate an art of displacement that will give new insight into the phrase ‘be strong to be useful’.
Formed in 2003 Trace Elements have performed for live shows, as a street team, in video clips, television commercials, short films and feature films. Since its inception Trace Elements have continued to develop their skills and look at new ways of displaying this unique art to other people.
